Wow! This is one amazing book. From the first page to the last I was enthralled - spellbound - couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The Reason by William Sirls Thomas Nelson September 2012 James Lindsey is a blind minister - Macy Lewis is a brilliant young oncologist - Alex is a four year old with leukemia - Brooke, Alex's mother, has given everything for her son - Carla is the town drunk - Charlie. Pastor Lindsey's son, has not spoken a word in his life, but he is best bud to Alex. Storm clouds gather over the small Michigan town. A loud clap of thunder and a bolt of lightening lights up the sky. Lightening has struck the large wooden cross on the church grounds, The cross is ablaze and splintered in two. Pastor Lindsey is on his knees praying to God asking "how will the small congregation ever be able to repair the cross? " He hears a voice saying "only believe". Dr. Lewis is at her wits end - nothing she has done seems to make a difference in Alex's condition. Out of no where appears Kenneth - a carpenter working on the hospital's new wing. He tells Dr. Lewis that she will not succeed in curing Alex. but she only has to believe. Kenneth challenges Pastor Lindsey with the Word of God. He gives him several scriptures to locate and interpret. He seems to be very familiar with the scriptures, and tells everyone to "only believe". Brooke wants to believe, but it is hard since Alex's health seems to be getting worse by the hour. Just who is Kenneth? He seems to have a healing effect on everyone. He seems to radiate tranquility and everyone feels a sense of peace around him. Miracles seems to happen when he is around. The ending of the book came as a complete surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and was spell bound from the first page to the last. An incredible story of second chances. This is Mr. Sirls' first novel, but I guarantee it won't be his last. Highly recommended.
