Clara Carter is best friends with Lizzi Barnes. In their small city teenage girls debut about around the age of eighteen. The story starts when Clara's aunt surprises her with the news that she and Lizzi will be having their debut this season.

Mrs. Miller is forced to leave by Clara's aunt because she was only teaching Clara science and educational things instead of flirting material and things Clara would need for her debut. Clara and lizzi are debuting a year early because the De Vrieses heir is coming to the city for his debut that season. Clara's aunt instructs Clara how to waltz, polka, skate, and she tell's Clara that she must wear a corset so tightly that Clara acheives a eighteen inch waist.
Clara goes to church that Sunday and sees that the De Vrises heir there along with his younger brother. Clara is invited to balls and operas and meets and conversates with the two boys. She also meets the other men that are debuting. Clara has to marry the heir because he will be recieving his family's fortone and because the De Vrises family owes her family their honor. Clara quickly relizes that the heir is a total weirdo, but his charming brother steals her heart. Clara's aunt is horrified and demands that Clara needs toget him out of her mind and go flirt with his brother the heir.
In this story of true love and self discovery a young women learns how special she is in God's eyes and that sometimes the best thing to do is to just follow your heart.
