Cass Rodino a Broadway set designer and Evgeny Kozlow a former KGB assassin are both working to save the life of Liesl Bower an internationally known pianist and to prevent terrorist attacks on America. Red Dawn Rising Sue Duffy Kregel Publications April 2013 Red Dawn Rising by Sue Duffy is a very powerful book that will cause the reader to do some soul searching and deep thinking. Cass Rodino is a set designer on Broadway and lives in an upscale apartment left to her by her father. Cass seems to be living in a different reality than others. She has a secret that causes her constant heartache but she is afraid to reveal the secret, even to her best friend Jordan who lives across the hall from her. Evgeny Kozlov is a former KGB assassin who last year tried to kill Liesl Bower, an internationally known pianist. This year he is back in America to protect Liesl and to stop Ivan, a former colleague, who has plans to destroy America. Cass and Evgeny are both working to save Liesl and end up in a CIA/FBI dragnet and thus begins a most exciting race to save Liesl and America. The book was not a quick read that I could finish in one sitting but required that I pay attention to keep all the characters straight and to remember who was doing what to whom and why. The author's style of writing made it easy to keep track of all the different characters and she did a wonderful job of making them all come to life in the story. There were so many characters and all were so very different but she made each extremely interesting, some being loveable and some despicable. The plot of the story was filled with numerous twists and surprises that made for very interesting reading. Just when I thought someone was a good guy he would turn out to be a bad guy or the bad guy was really a good guy. Since the book deals with political intrigue, there was a great deal of thrilling and frightening action. While reading the book, I kept wondering just how much of the “fiction” could really be “fact.” It is definitely a book to make one stop and think and to pray for God's protection of America and the rest of the world. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a very suspenseful story with romance and a little humor to relieve the tension of all the political intrigue.
