I finished the third book in the Level One God series by Zachary Scott. I've heard rumors there won't be a next one, so I don't know if I'll keep going even if there is.

This book moves on from the smaller fights to a much bigger problem. We finally start getting some of the secrets, and we meet Ithariel, the one god who's still around and didn't reset. He's fighting and killing people, heads are getting chopped off, and the F-bombs and other cuss words are flying.

Then there's Pebble, a rock that I'm pretty sure calls him Dad. There are magic beetles that poop on the floor. One of the bugs is a mantis with sword arms and long blonde hair, and her name is Deborah. The book is so confused that it doesn't know what it wants to be. Is this a serious war story or a stupid comedy? Why have all the language if you're also going to have bugs? The add-ons feel super juvenile.

And once again, he's super overpowered. When I finished the audiobook today, I noticed him using skills I don't remember him ever getting. I have to assume he got them while I zoned out, and honestly, I didn't notice or care.

Most of this book is a Hunger Games-style tournament, and of course he figures out how to cheat the system out of nowhere. We don't know what happens next, but he figures it out. And spoiler alert: he's still not with the girl. There's no relationship there, and she takes a back seat in this one.

It's not great. It's okay. If there were a fourth book and it was cheap, I'd probably listen to it in between other books, just for the noise of it all. Two and a half out of five stars, if that's even a rating. Just okay.
