A very interesting story where love endures regardless of class, wealth or circumstances. The Lady of Bolton Hill Elizabeth Camden Bethany House June 2011 Clara Endicott and Daniel Tremain are friends. The one thing they have in common is music. She is from Bolton Hill - the high society place to live. Her father is the Reverend Lloyd Endicott - one of the most influential religious leaders in the country.. Daniel is from a poor section of Baltimore - his father works in the steel mill owned by Alfred Forsythe. On day there is an accident in the mill and Daniel's father is killed. He blames Forsythe and vows someday to make him pay for the death of his father. Lloyd and Clyde (Clara's brother) do not like Daniel. They believe he is a bad influence on Clara and ships her off to London to live with a distant aunt.. Clara becomes a journalist and is determined to defend underprivileged workers. She is arrest and thrown in jail. Daniel comes to her rescue. By now he is an industrial titan, but have some very powerful enemies. Daniel hires the best lawyer to defend her. She is unaware that Daniel is her benefactor. Clara is released from jail and returns home. Clara and Daniel's world collides after twelve years, but the old spark is still there. This starts a romance neither thought possible. Daniel's partner wants the company to go public, but Daniel refuses. He will not sell his technology to Forsythe. Clara writes an insulting article about Daniel's vendetta against Forsythe and blames him for the working classes poor salaries. The article is published in the newspaper owned by Reverend Endicott. Daniel is furious and vows to forget about Clara (he loves her but will no longer associate with her) and concentrates on ruining Forsythe. The article sets off riots in the city and Daniel is right in the middle of the mess. Someone in his company has betrayed him. Clara is kidnapped and it is up to Daniel to save her. One must read the book to find out if love really does conquer all. Will Clara and Daniel find the happiness they both seek? Who is the person that betrays them both? Highly recommended. Ms. Camden is an excellent writer of historical fiction. She makes her characters come alive. You will feel their pain, hopes, desires and frustration as they overcome the problems they must endure to obtain the love they both so desperately seek.
