Dr. Ruth Galloway, Head of the Forensic Archaeology at the University of North Norfolk, is investigating the headless skeleton found beneath a doorway that was once a Catholic children's home. The Janus Stone Elly Griffiths Houghton Mifflin Harcourt January 2011 An archaeological team has uncovered the skeleton while looking for Roman artifacts on a plot of land known as Woolmarket Street being cleared for luxury townhouses. Dr. Galloway must determine if the bones are from the Ancient Roman Empire or more recent from the orphanage. The police investigation is head by Detective Chief Inspector Harry Nelson. The investigation takes some strange twists and turns. Strange items are appearing in the trenches. Someone is trying to frighten Dr. Galloway off the trail. There is pure evil at the site. Is Father Patrick Hennessey involved in the murder? He certainly acts as if he has something to hide. A Janus Stone is uncovered and when Dr. Galloway goes to the site she is kidnapped. The madman wants her unborn child as a sacrifice to the Ancient Roman gods. He has killed before - both human and animals - for his sacrifices. A very interesting story containing a meaty plot - family secrets, insanity and both pagan and Roman ancient mythology. Recommended for those readers who love a good mystery.
