When Jared accepts a, possible but highly unlikely, breakthrough case, it brings him back to his childhood home. With all the bad memories, he still chooses to go back there and eventually end back up at his home, with his dad. As he climbs deeper and deeper into this ten million dollar case, he finds, not just himself, but others in danger. When he discovers how deep he has gotten involved, it is really too late to back out and he is also closer than anyone has gotten so far, but how far would he go?

This book has many twist and turns. The outcome was nothing I expected. I loved the way Mr. Johnson wrote this to keep you wanting to engage in reading. I read this book in 2 days time.

What Your Husband Isn’t Telling You by Murrow

When my husband first saw me reading this book, he told me he thought it would be full of lies and only makes men look horrible. I told him that wasn’t the case and throughout the story, would read specific facts in there and he told me they were right. One thing I learned throughout this book, was that it is the truth.

David explains things in the book that most people know but haven’t thought about. He uses real life stories and history to explain why men are the way they are. I truly enjoyed this book and I now understand my husband better than ever. You can know every fact about your husband but you will never understand why he does the things he does, says the things he says or vice versa, unless you read this book. Things that used to bother me about my husband were explained and now those problems just seem to fade away, thanks to my new found knowledge. My husband has even noticed how some of the little things don’t bother me anymore.

I would definitely recommend this book to any female seeking to understand men better. I grabbed it just out of curiosity and am very glad I did. If there are things your husband does, that upsets you and you don’t know why, give this book a try.

That is what Ellie Moore was thinking when she lost her current job as an actress assistant. What should she do? She had some money saved up but it wasn’t enough to get her through. She didn’t even have a place to stay. There weren’t many job offering for an assistant with her skill either. Even though she is down, jobless and down to her last penny, Ellie continues to try. Then, she overhears the Pinkerton Agency discussing how they need a new detective.

The Pinkerton Agency is in the middle of dealing with high thief in Arizona and with no available detectives, they’re not sure how to follow up with their demands. When Ellie walks into their office and offers herself for the position, they are reluctant but decide to give her one chance to prove herself. After all, she would be in a partnership with a more experience detective. Ellie figured it would be easy to be a detective with her prior acting skills. However, Ellie never thought her partner would fall in love and not come along.

When Ellie lands in Arizona, she is disguised as Lavinia Stewart and ready to begin her journey. After she settles into her temporary home, she decides to start walking around and seeing she is disguised as an old lady, she figures she can ask questions and only be considered a noisy old lady. When she finally meets Steven Pierce, she claims she is on an adventure and is interested in investing into his mine. This gives her the open door to ask questions about the mine and determined where she should begin her investigation. When the time arises, she finds the need to disguise herself as Lavinia’s beautiful niece, Jessie Monroe. With this new personality, she is more accepted with different groups of people than Lavinia. But when the thieves get more determined neither Lavinia nor Jessie is safe and with time getting short, her job and her life are on the line.

I couldn’t put down this book once I began it. The thrilling suspense always has you wondering, what’s next? Then it keeps you thinking once you have to take a break. Carole Cox is a fantastic writer who uses history to turn this book into a must have. I recommend this book to anyone. It is suitable for all generations. I will be saving this for when my daughter is older, in hopes she will still love to read.

Named by God by Van Norman

Named by God truly is an inspiring story. Kasey Van Norman shares her personal experiences as she attempts to strengthen our faith. Many young women face the same issues she faced and therefore many readers can relate to this story.

Kasey experiences many tough situations in her teenage years. She went through eating disorders, addiction to sex, date rape and others. Then as an adult, suffered a painful miscarriage, was rejected by friends, her church and the community. She also was diagnosed with cancer and she took it hard when her mother past away from cancer.

Since Kasey has endured more than I did and she came out strong, I would consider her an idol. She trusted her faith in God took it step by step and always found her way back. It is tough to not worry about what people think of you and to accept yourself for who you are. Kasey tells how she took that step and shows it is possible. There are so many situations I could relate to, could go on forever.

I would give Named by God two thumbs up! This story is a must read for young women, especially those who are high school age. I definitely recommend it to all women. Sometimes situations aren’t as bad as they seem or the blessing are hidden in the grayness but see things from a new pair of eyes and things usually are better.

Thank you Kasey for having the courage to share your background. Your story has helped me!

It would take every ounce of energy to hide her true identity for a couple of months, in a servants hall where she barely got privacy. Just as it gets close to her birthday, she retreats home in fear that her sisters future is in danger and she prepares to hand over her inheritance.

This book is very intriguing, keeps you guessing what will happen, from beginning to end. Julie Klassen is a fantastic author. She brings the 1800s alive in this book!

I was hooked from the first chapter! The mystery Margaret Macy carries with her throughout the story is enough to keep the reader intrigued. You feel for the characters while you read. I give this book 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone.

The children brought to the orphanage remained unharmed and were given to better homes. So they decided to keep the baby a secret and when the Fourth Daughter was born, they took her to the orphanage. To be apart of their sister’s life, all the Change children volunteer their time to the orphanage and was able to see this baby sister everyday. That was until Andrew and Gloria Powell adopted her. Shortly after the adoption, their mother came down with a sickness that eventually took her life. Third Daughter was determined to find out what had taken her mother, so she studied, worked hard and when the opportunity to go to America came up, she took it. Once in America, she continued to study at Harvard where she graduated and then she discovered what has killed her mother.

PKD, Polycystic Kidney Disease, is the heredity disease that took her mother. Both of her older sisters have been tested and did not have it and she has never shown any signs of it either. Plus, she is a Kidney Specialist, so she is certain she would know the signs. However, the Fourth Daughter, Joy Powell, is unaware of what could be awaiting her.

After getting all the facts and paper work, she is ready to go to the Powells and share with them what she knows. It could mean life and death for their daughter, her sister. When she meets with them, they overcome all awkwardness and decided to work together and do what needs to be done. The bug question is; can Gloria and Dr. Kia work together and put aside their difference for Joy?

This story is a test of good faith, of learning to trust God and his path for you. Patti Lacy put all this into Reclaiming Lily. She shows us that people of difference cultures have similarities and can come together for a great cause. I truly loved this book and thought it is very moving and inspirational. It is a must read Christian novel.

The Crossing by Serita Jakes

When the main character, Claudia, watched her best friend be gunned down and the gun man get away, she never intended for the nightmares to cause her husband, Vic, to reopen the cold case nearly ten years later.

The Crossing

September 2011

In the beginning of the story, she happens to run into two different people that were on the bus that day, Casio, her ex boyfriend from back then, and Georgie, a girl she doesn’t hardly remember. Casio was also on the police force and when he heard Vic reopening the case, he was determined to help him find the guy that not only killed B.J. Remington, but shot him in the arm. One of the first bits of evidence that is found is discovering that B.J. Remington was also pregnant and this information was not with the original report. This is the first part of all the twist and turns while trying to discover the truth.

This was an amazing reading! I would give it 10 out of 10. I have never read a Serita Jakes book but this one caught my attention before the end of chapter one. She had a minor story line of what your last thought might be during the last minutes of your life – something I am sure almost everyone can relate to. But the book’s main story line is a mystery that keeps you on your toes through out the whole story.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries, discoveries and someone who likes Christianity based book. I believe this book is suitable for anyone over the age of 13. There isn’t much cursing or explicit scenes. However, the lesson to be learned from this book is suitable for all ages.

This book was a fantastic reading and I was anxious to be able to get back to it. I look forward to reading another book by Serita Jakes.
