It was the Abbey Theatre’s opening night performance of the Minute’s Wait and Lady Isode (Issy) Byrne was in attendance. Also in attendance is Padraig Pearse – leader of the Irish Citizens Army who later led the 1916 Irish Rising during Easter week.
Lady Maeve Ashford finds Eoin O’Byrne on her estate suffering from a gunshot wound and near death. With the help of her housekeeper she hid him and nursed him back to health. Maeve’s father is a strong supporter of the English. He would not be pleased with her housing an O’Bryne who is actually Pearce.
Izzy and the two Connolly Brothers fought with the rebels in their rebellion against England for their freedom. She was the photographer that took the pictures that later became history.
This book is the legacy of three women who had the courage to do what they felt was right.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend it to all readers.
